Officers:

Samuel Sanchez (Current President)

Sam Sanchez grew up in DeLand, FL, and graduated from Florida State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. Since moving to Washington, DC in 2008, Sam has worked as a legislative staffer for Senators Mel Martinez and George LeMieux, and is currently the External Affairs Coordinator and Social Media Manager for Republican National Committee Co-Chairman Sharon Day. Sam is President of the FSU Seminole Club of Greater Washington, DC, and Vice President of the Florida State Society.

Howard Shores (Current Vice President)

Howard Shores graduated from Florida State University in 2008 with a Master’s in International Affairs, specializing in Political Science and International Affairs.  A member of the DC Noles since 2008, he’s spent 2011-2012 assisting the DC Noles in running the club’s online social network presence, and served as Vice President from 2012-2013.  He works for the United States Department of State.

Brian Anweiler (Current Treasurer)

Brian Anweiler is a 1997 graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Media Communication.   In addition, he earned a Master of Science degree in Physical Education (Sport Administration) from FSU in 2000.  Currently, he is the College-Wide Student Life Coordinator and Acting Director of Athletics at Northern Virginia Community College and lives in Alexandria, Virginia.  Prior to moving to the DC Metro area in January 2009, he was the Director of Athletics at Tallahassee Community College.  Brian has been on the DC Noles Board since 2009.  He served as the DC Noles Secretary in 2011-12 and Treasurer in 2012-13.

Farrah Saint-Surin (Current Secretary)

Farrah Saint-Surin moved to the D.C. metro area from Boston in January 2009 to work at the Department of Justice. She has served on the DC Noles board since 2009 and currently serves as the Secretary of the DC Noles. She graduated from Florida State in 2004 with a Bachelors in History. While at FSU she was active in SGA, BSU, HLSU, and many more student organizations. After graduating from Florida State she moved back to Boston to attend law school and became active in the Greater Boston Seminole Club and served as President from 2006-2008.  Farrah has a deep love for Florida State University and would love to continue to spread the Seminole spirit in the D.C. area.

Peri Farbstein (Incumbent)

Peri Farbstein grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and graduated from The Florida State University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs, a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology, and a Minor in Public Administration. Peri is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in International Communication at American University’s School of International Service and is Hudson Institute’s Manager of Public Programs and Special Projects. Previously she served as Hudson Institute’s Events Coordinator. Peri is the Merchandising Chair of the FSU Seminole Club of Greater Washington, D.C.,and in 2013, served as Gold Cup Co-Chair representing the FSU Anchor for University Row at the Virginia Gold Cup. Peri is also on the Board of The Florida State Society.

Emily Grossman (Incumbent)

Emily is a Northern Virginia native who made the wise decision to head south and attend Florida State University. She graduated in 2010 with a BA in Psychology. Upon returning to the DC area, she immediately joined DC Noles and became an active member of the club. Currently she is on the Board of Directors for DC Noles and serves as the Club Sports Chair.

Will Higgins (Incumbent)

William Higgins, a native of Winter Park, graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelors in Political Science, and a Masters in American Politics. After several years of interning and working in the Florida Legislature, he moved to D.C. in 2012 and is currently employed as an associate at the Arlington based government affairs firm Stateside Associates. A member since his arrival in D.C., he has actively participated in many DC Noles events, and looks forward to an opportunity to further serve the organization.

Daryl Levine (Incumbent)

Daryl R. Levine is a 2002 graduate of FSU and moved to Washington, DC in 2005. He has served as an AmeriCorps VISTA and a higher education professional association manager. Daryl currently serves as a Special Assistant to the Mayor of the District of Columbia. His service to the Seminole Club of Greater Washington, DC since 2006 includes a term as secretary, two terms as vice-president, and service as a member of the Board of Directors with responsibility for coordination of all FSU at Maryland Weekend events since 2008.

Joe Paul (Incumbent)

Joe Paul was born in New York but raised in Florida; moving to Miami, Florida in the 5th grade. After high school, Florida State University was the only school he considered as an option for pursuing higher education.  After serving the university as president of over a dozen clubs and organizations including the Student Senate and Student Government, he earned the honor of being FSU’s Homecoming Chief in 2001. He also earned the honor of being FSU’s 1st ever African American Big Man on Campus. He graduated from FSU in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the College of Social Science.

Joe Paul served as past president for Seminole Club of Southern California and served on the board of the Orlando Seminole Club. Although Joe Paul visited Washington DC monthly for the past 5 years, he finally made the move to the DC Area in February of 2012 and is currently a Professional Speaker, Author, Life Coach and entrepreneur at www.JoePaulSpeaks.com

Grant Williams (Incumbent)

Grant moved to Florida in 1998 and attended Florida State for his undergraduate and graduate degrees. He also studied abroad in Florence, Italy and worked at the FSU Florence Study Center in 2007. He has lived in DC off and on for several years and works in the US Senate.

Non-Incumbents:

Chelsea Albers

Chelsea Albers graduated from Florida State University in May 2012 with a major in International Affairs, double major in German and Spanish, a minor in Business, and a Global Pathways certificate. During her time at FSU she interned for five semesters at the James Madison Institute, worked as a Spinning Instructor at the FSU Leach Center for two years, served as Secretary of Noles for Haiti, joined the 100 Mile Swimming Club for two straight years, a member of FSU College Republicans and was actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Tallahassee. She participated in the FSU Beyond Borders 2011 program in Dresden, Germany and is a member of Delta Phi Alpha German Honors Society. She is currently a member of Seminole Torchbearers and the Garnet and Gold Society.

Chelsea has lived in Arlington, VA for one year, working as the Development and Events Associate at the Atlas Network in Washington, D.C.

Ian Hicks

Ian Hicks is a 2008 graduate of Florida State. He majored in International Affairs and was a member of Delta Tau Delta for four years. During his time in Delta Ian acted as the Philanthropy Chair and Social Activities Chair. He moved to Washington DC in 2010 and currently works as a Federal Sales Rep for Humanscale. Humanscale is a manufacturer of ergonomic office furniture. Ian looks forward to working with his fellow Noles on the board for the DC chapter.

Juno Jablon

Juno Jablon graduated from FSU in 2012 with a degree in Marketing and a minor in Spanish. She moved to DC at the end of 2012 for a legislative internship in the office of Senator Chris Coons and in January 2013  began working as the Business Development Coordinator at United Fresh Produce Association. While at FSU Juno was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha where she served as New Member Educator Assistant and Fundraising Chair for their yearly 5K in support of Breast Cancer Research and Awareness. She is looking forward becoming more involved with the DC Noles and bringing more Seminole spirit to the District!

Terry Ann Paulo

Terry Ann Paulo is currently the Assistant Manager of Regulatory Affairs at the National Pork Producers Council. Terry graduated from FSU with a dual degree in International Affairs and Political Science with a minor in Italian. While at FSU, Terry studied abroad in Florence, Italy and held positions within the Student Government and First Year Experience (FYE) Program. She can be found cheering on the ‘Noles at game watching events and volunteering with the DC ‘Noles at the Northern Virginia Special Olympics.

Ryan Powers

Ryan Powers grew up in Tallahassee, FL, and graduated from Florida State University in 2009. During his time at FSU, Ryan was an active member of the University community through his involvement with a number of student organizations and activities. Through this involvement, Ryan held a number of leadership positions across campus, including being elected Student Body Vice-President his junior year. Ryan was also an active brother of the Kappa Alpha Order.

Upon graduation, Ryan accepted a job in the office of Senator Mel Martinez. After a unique introduction to Washington, D.C. resulting from Senator Martinez’s resignation the same week he arrived to start his new job, Ryan spent the next few years on the legislative staff of Senator George LeMieux, and then Senator Marco Rubio. Most recently, Ryan served as Deputy Regional Political Director with Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, where he assisted in the management of campaign activity in twelve states across the South and Mid-West.

Luis Sanchez

Luis Sanchez is a proud Seminole and recent graduate of Florida State University. While at FSU, Luis served as chapter president of the Association for Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA), founded the Pan-Asian Finance Association (ASCEND) and was a member of the FSU Table Tennis team which ranked #4 during his last season. Interested in everything international, Luis studied abroad with FSU twice; first during the 2008 Olympic Games in Tianjin, China, and second during 2011 at FSU Panama.

Luis got his professional start with an internship at the FSU Endowment fund, helping to manage its over $500 million investment portfolio and later went on to work for the Florida State Board of Administration $150 billion public pension fund and JP Morgan Asset Management. Luis currently works as a Financial Advisory Consultant with Deloitte at its Washington, DC office.

One of Luis’s most memorable FSU moments was while a member of the College of Business’s case study team and winning the 2012 Georgetown University Business Strategy competition over 23 other less deserving schools including the University of Florida.

Maria Santos

Maria Santos is a Human Capital Customer Consultant for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). She serves as consultant and advisor to senior management at this new agency. She provides technical expertise on a variety of areas such as: strategic planning and policy development, organizational redesign, workforce planning, position management, recruitment and outreach strategies, succession planning, and diversity and employee engagement. Maria conducts organizational analysis and needs assessments to measure and ensure program effectiveness, from development to implementation.

Before moving to Washington DC in 2008, Maria worked as a System Administrator and Human Resources Coordinator for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), in the Tallahassee Headquarters and Orlando Regional Office. She is a proud graduate of The Florida State University. She obtained a double Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and Political Science and graduated from the Florida State Askew School with a Masters in Public Administration. She is also an American Political Science Association Fellow.

Meg Terry

Meg Terry is a Florida native and DC enthusiast.  A 2003 graduate of the Florida State University, Meg spent many years living in Orlando, Florida, but now resides in Washington, DC and works in non-profit as an Events Manager. Her volunteer background includes Hole in the Wall Camps (now known as the Serious Fun Network); Camp Boggy Creek; the SPCA, and Habitat for Humanity where she served as the Chairman of the Orlando Young Professional Committee for 2 years.  Meg has always had a passion for events and volunteering, and has found ways to combine both of those for the betterment of children and families for the past 10 years.  A former Lady Spirithunter at FSU, Meg believes in the value of school spirit, and the power of alumni to give back to their community; which can be a driving force in helping to better communities that extend far-beyond the college campus.  Meg is a member of the Florida State University Alumni Association, and a proud DC Nole.

Allen Van Brunt

Allen Van Brunt moved to DC in 1996 after receiving his Masters degree in Instructional Systems Design from Florida State University.   He also received a BFA from FSU in 1977.  Allen currently works for Windwalker, Corporation as a senior instructional systems designer.  Over the years, Allen has served on the DC Noles Board in many areas such as Treasurer, Webmaster, Athletic Director, Maryland FSU License Plate Program Manager and Chief Hamburger/Hotdog Chef (4 FSU-Maryland Football Game Tailgate Parties).  Allen represented the DC Noles at the FSU Leadership Conference for the last three years and assisted the club in implementing the new Seminole Club Initiative that started July 1^st 2011.

Philip Villeneuve

Philip Villeneuve graduated from FSU in 2007.  Originally from Sandbridge Beach, Virginia, Philip graduated from Kellam High School in 2003 and enrolled at Florida State University.  At FSU, he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, the President and a two-year Executive Board member of Scalphunters, and a graduate of the School of Communication.  Following graduation, Philip moved to Washington, D.C. and worked in public sector business development for a Web Media company.  In 2010, he returned to Florida to enroll at Florida Coastal School of Law.  During his tenure at FCSL, he worked for both the U. S. Attorney’s Office and the Wounded Warrior Project’s General Counsel.  Additionally, Philip was a member of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville Discovery Circle, the Vice President and a charter member of Rotaract Jax, and a fundraising participant for the Dreams Come True Horizon Board.  In May of 2012, he graduated with honors from FCSL and accepted a position as a consultant with Wounded Warrior Project.  Subsequently, in December of 2012, he accepted an offer from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and returned to the DC metro area.  Philip is a member of American Bar Association and the Florida Bar.  He currently resides in Arlington with his wife, Lauren (FSU; BS ’06, MS ’07), and their basset hound, Ellie.  Philip would like to join the DC Seminole Club Board of Directors in an effort to leverage his knowledge and experience while facilitating the great opportunities currently provided by the DC Seminole Club and building new opportunities for the FSU alumni community and the DC metro community as a whole.
